At any point during training, all full time residents and fellows may obtain an “in-program” policy that will provide $1,500/month of tax free income.

When you are within 9 months of completing your training, you can secure a policy that will provide a $5,000/month income benefit, $2,000/month loan benefit and an additional $10,000/month income benefit that can be obtained during your practice years.

This benefit amount will be available to any resident or fellow who elected to purchase an in-program policy during their training program.

Yes, these policies will include a permanent 15% rate discount.

Yes, the rates offered through this program are “gender neutral” and will allow female physicians to avoid the higher rates insurance companies normally charge (due to higher claims rates).

The UTSW coverage will not be available if you have applied for coverage with another insurance company and have been denied due to a medical condition.

The benefits provided through this policy will not be offset by any benefits you receive during or after your training program.

Once this policy is issued, the insurance company cannot change the policy’s definitions and the rates are guaranteed not to increase until you reach Age 65.

If you are paying for this coverage personally the benefits will be tax-free.

The rate discount will apply to the initial policy amount and any subsequent increases of coverage through the benefit increase rider.

Yes, the policy can include a student loan repayment rider that will reimburse up to $2,500/month of loan payments.

An individual policy can be used to insure a physician’s basic monthly salary and any performance based compensation.

Yes, the coverage will insure you for the duties of the specialty you are performing at time of claim.

Yes, this coverage is designed to provide a proportionate benefit once you satisfy the waiting period and benefits will continue until you reach the end of the benefit period or the percentage loss of income falls below 20%.

Yes, the policy includes a cost of living provision that will increase the monthly benefit by 3% on each policy anniversary.

Benefits will be provided after 90 days days of total or residual (partial loss) disability.

Benefits will be provided until you reach the Age of 65 or no longer satisfy the definitions of total or residual disability.

Yes, you can elect to include a Catastrophic Benefit Rider that will provide up to $10,000/month if you are unable to perform activities of daily living due to an accident or illness.
